It’s time for our annual countdown to recognize the best games of the year. Over the next 10 days, we’ll be counting down the top 10 games of 2024.
As always, the votes of each member of the Press Start team were weighted and collated from 10th to 1st to compile the best results of the year. A game worthy of the top spot is awarded a maximum of 10 points, and its value drops to the 10th selection, which is awarded 1 point.
Just as no one was trying to force us to believe in PlayStation’s live service strategy, Helldivers 2 felt like a spark, and if done right, nothing could be better than a war against massive, bombastic bugs. It was proof that there is nothing in life. Like magnets, old friends are drawn to each other again.
With this sequel taking an unexpected turn, Helldivers 2 sold like hotcakes on two platforms, selling over 12 million copies in just three months, and declaring war on gamers worldwide. It felt like I was there.
Additionally, the player-first approach to content and incredible marketing that framed this intergalactic war of attrition in good old-fashioned, shitty fashion meant that this game was always destined to be talked about. Ta.
With a new content package titled ‘Omens of Tyranny’ being presented at The Game Awards and crossovers with other IPs like the once prolific Killzone appearing left, right and centre, the game is on the rise It seems to be getting more and more powerful. Whether you’re looking for a few hours or 1,000 hours, you’ll have a great time with Helldiver.
