First date failures are virtually universal, as is the experience of dealing with annoying harassers on the internet. Combine the two, add a dash of murderous rage, and you have the premise for Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon’s latest film, The Drop, which finally has an April 2025 release date. It was decided on the 11th.
In addition to a poster featuring star Megan Fahey’s eyes looking down at her phone, the film also co-stars Brandon Skenner, Violet Beane, Jacob Robinson, Reed Diamond, Gabriel Ryan, Jeffrey Self, and Ed. A complete synopsis is also included. Weeks and Travis Nelson:
Megan Fahey, the Emmy-nominated star of The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years. Violet arrives at an upscale restaurant, where her date, Henry (Sklenar, who is relieved to meet Brandon from Seraph of the End) is more attractive and handsome than she expected. However, their chemistry begins to solidify when Violet begins to become irritated and then horrified by a series of messages that are anonymously dropped on her cell phone.
She is told not to tell anyone and if she does not follow instructions, a hooded figure seen on her home’s surveillance camera will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do as instructed or everyone she loves will die. Her invisible tormentor’s final orders? Kill Henry.
The Blumhouse film, written by Gillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, is Landon’s first since last year’s Stranger Things: We Have a Ghost, starring David Harbor and Anthony Mackie. This is his first directorial work. It is also the first film he released in theaters after leaving the troubled Scream 7, which he was originally scheduled to direct. The film is produced by Jason Blum, Brad and Cameron Fuller, and Michael Bay. (We don’t know what he’s doing here, but we’re still excited.)
