When I ask him about the perception that Australian films are overshadowed by American and British films, the filmmaker says that’s true to some extent, especially because of the English language. “Australian films have to compete with Hollywood’s big budget films, but I’m proud of the success of ‘Dry’ and ‘Force of Nature.’ It’s one of the reasons why I find the Indian film industry so fascinating. Despite Hollywood’s global dominance, Indian films are extremely popular in Australia, especially among the large Indian community. It’s interesting to see how modern Indian films are perceived. In Australia, I’ve enjoyed several films over the years, but the one that recently caught my attention was the Golden Globe-nominated All We Imagine As Light. I’m also fascinated by the modern commercial wave. Indian films began to achieve international success. ”
The filmmaker is currently working on his next project, Shiver, based on author Nicky Gemmell’s book. “This is a love story set against the backdrop of Antarctica and climate change, featuring a young journalist and a scientist. The film is currently in the final stages of financing and casting. Antarctica, a site of global concern It’s exciting to explore how this intimate love story takes place, hopefully including an audience in Chennai, and bring that world to audiences, giving them a sense of a place they’ve never been before. I’m excited for you to try it out. ”
Robert also recently tested his production skills with “The Surfer,” starring Nicolas Cage. “I recently took on the role of producer on The Surfer, an Australian-Irish co-production starring Nicolas Cage. Directed by Lorcan Finnegan, the film premiered at Cannes this year to great acclaim. Co-production, once viewed with skepticism, now seems like the future, as it allows for stories that cross cultural boundaries and be shared between countries like India and Australia. It’s especially exciting when you think about the stories that come with it.”
The filmmaker said he enjoys working on the projects he’s a part of. “As a director and producer, I love the diversity of projects I take on. From The Dry and Force of Nature to The Surfer and now Shiver, my company has maintained a uniquely Australian voice. It has been a rewarding journey and I look forward to the future of Australian cinema both domestically and internationally.”
