The minimalist strategy game Thronefall is now officially released after being in early access for over a year, and the response to the finished game has been near perfect.

You may already know that Thronefall has a unique high-contrast, two-tone art style that swaps out its color palette from level to level, which contributed to its success during its Early Access period. Developer GrizzlyGames finally reached 1.0 on October 11th, taking an already great game to an even higher level.

Thronefall initially attracted attention for its gorgeous art and the way it combined RTS strategy elements with tower defense. All of this was without the “headaches” that sometimes accompany both subgenres. “With Thronefall, we tried to remove all unnecessary complexity from classic strategy games and combine it with a healthy dose of hack-and-slay. Build your base by day and defend it to your last breath by night,” says the game’s Steam It is explained on the page.

In case you’ve just immersed yourself in the game’s fluid world, the release of Thronefall 1.0 introduces three different biomes, including the Misty Swamp, the Autumn Fortress, and the “Dark Realm,” as well as a new Equipment was purchased. It comes with features that improve your quality of life, including the ability to switch color schemes on the go.

Thronefall’s lightweight approach to tactical defense and all the improvements it has seen since its release have earned it an “overwhelmingly positive” reputation based on over 15,000 Steam user reviews.

“Each ‘level’ takes about 30 minutes,” one player, Mugains, wrote in his review. “There are a lot of modifiers to make things more difficult, and a lot of unlocks to change the way you play. For the price, you get as much variety as you would expect in terms of levels, but What’s there is very well designed and lovingly crafted if you want a fun and rewarding experience with units, towers, and building upgrades, or if you want to learn the entire rulebook to get better. There are a lot of challenges to accomplish overall, so this is a great pick-up.”

And if you want to jump in to protect an adorable little kingdom, Thronefall is offering a great introductory discount of 25% off the price for the next six days on Steam.
