Will Patrick Dempsey return to ‘Scream 7’? Here’s the latest from the Grey’s Anatomy alum

The horror genre has thrived over the years, which is a blessing for fans like me. Some of the best horror movies are back with new sequels, including Scream. A seventh film is in development and is one of the most anticipated horror films to come. But will Patrick Dempsey really return to the role of Mark Kincaid? Click here for the latest information on Grey’s Anatomy icons.

What we know about Scream 7 is very limited, but when it was confirmed that Neve Campbell, who was conspicuously absent from Scream 6, would be returning as Sidney Prescott for many years, ‘s fan base was thrilled. During an appearance on the Today Show, Dempsey was asked if he would return as Sidney’s husband. He replied:

I’m waiting for the script. There was a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything yet so let’s see what happens. But Neve was actually on the show, she played my sister on Grey’s Anatomy, and we worked together almost 26, 27 years ago. I did that in 1999 or 1998.

Well, that seems pretty promising. Although he hasn’t signed a contract, Dempsey is in fact in talks to finally reprise his role in Scream 3 (now streaming on Max subscription). I hope he closes the deal soon and we get to see what Sydney and Mark are like as a couple. It was confirmed that the two will get married in 2022’s Scream and have a child together.

As Dempsey mentioned, Campbell played one of the McDreamy sisters on Grey’s Anatomy. A few years after the two met, they co-starred in the third Scream series. They seem to have great chemistry, and Mark is a legacy character from Scream that fans have long wanted to see return to screens. Later, during an appearance on the same show, Today, he appeared to confirm that he would not be attending Scream 7’s live show, saying:

Yeah, I mean, it’s always good to have a job.

touch. It seems like the perfect time to bring Dempsey back to the Scream series. After Dewey’s death in the fifth film, Scream 7 has an opening for a legacy character. And with Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega both not returning, the film could have some extra star power.

McDreamy returned to the slasher genre with a key role in Thanksgiving, currently available to stream with a Netflix subscription. So why not face off against Ghostface once again and team up with Neve Campbell again in the process? If so, we’ll have to see if he survives in a horror movie.

Scream 7 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on February 27, 2026. For now, check out 2025 movie release dates and plan your next scary movie.
