Bungie today announced that Marathon will no longer be released on September 23rd. The team continues to work on the game throughout the year, before offering updates and new release dates later this year.
The announcement was made on the Bungie blog and it is said that the decision was made due to feedback from PlayTests, which has been previously received.
“Your voice was strong and clear through all the comments and real-time conversations about social media and inconsistencies. We keep this in mind. And we know that we need more time to create a marathon in a game that really reflects your passion. After a lot of discussion within the development team, we decided to delay the September 23 release,” Bungee said.
When it comes to where teams focus on development efforts, these are said to be areas of focus.
A survival game encounters more challenging and engaging AI, and AI will encounter more rewarding runs. New types of loot and dynamic events will become more tense and double strategic events in the marathon universe.

Marathon development update
Take your time to listen carefully and graph the next steps, as well as passionate feedback on the marathon reveal and the alpha playtest.
Your voice was strong and clear through social media and every comment on discrepancies and real-time conversations. We keep this in mind and know that we need more time to create a marathon in a game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within the development team, it has decided to delay the release on September 23rd.
The Alpha test created an opportunity to adjust and focus the game on what makes it unique and persuasive.
This time, the team is able to create a fierce high-stakes experience where marathon-like titles are built. This means deepening the relationship between the developer and the game’s most important voice: the player.
Over the next few months, we will continue to have closed tests (including participants from Alpha) deploy gameplay updates and test new features online.
