HBO has released the first official trailer for Task, the upcoming Mark Ruffalo Sterling series, from Easttown creator Marle’s Brad Ingelsby.
The series follows Tom, a troubled FBI agent with Ruffalo, set in a working-class neighborhood plagued by a series of violent robberies and gathering a under-resourced task force for investigation. Their main target: the seemingly ordinary man – played by Tom Pelfrey (Ozark, outside range) – quietly organizes confusion.
The teaser hints at a morally vague descent in the Moothies, soundtracked to guns and “roses” and “patience.” Ruffalo’s agents appear tired before the incident begins, and Pelphrey’s character (father and husband) walks the dangerous boundary between crime and despair. As stakes increase, the series appears to be ready to delve into the issues of substance abuse, economic stress, and the complexities of justice in America’s forgotten horn.
The ensemble cast features Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keely, Thor Mvedou, Fabian Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raul Castillo, Sylvia Dioricio, Phoebe Fox and Martha Plimpton. Mireille Enos also appears in recurring roles.
Ingelsby, who won Emmy for East Town’s Fantastic Kate Winslet Mares, is a creator, writer and showrunner. He is executives, directors Jeremiah Zagal (Hustle), Sally Richardson Whitfield (Golden Age), Mark Roybal, Paul Lee, David Crockett and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan Weber and Jeremy Yach are joint produce for the public record.
Task, a 7-episode series, premieres September on HBO and streams on Max. No exact date has been announced yet.
