Screen Australia welcomes gaming investment manager Dakoda Barker

Screen Australia has announced that Dakoda Barker has joined the Games team in the role of Games Investment Manager, reporting to Lee Naimo, Head of Online and Games.

Dakoda is an educator, author, consultant, and game developer. As a games writer and critic, his work has been published in various print and online publications. Dakoda has taught game design at several universities in Queensland and Victoria and completed his doctoral thesis investigating the representation of chronic health conditions in video games. Rise, one of several games developed as part of his doctoral research, won the Freeplay Microgame award in 2018. In 2020, he co-authored Games as Texts, an introductory guide to investigating video games through the lens of general text analysis. Dakoda is a nonprofit that champions intersectionality in the games industry, advocates for and supports marginalized game developers, and provides a wide range of consulting services to game developers, from large studios to sole proprietors. He is a former director of the organization Represent Me. .
