Netflix releases trailer for ‘Bridgerton’ season 4, which depicts the love story of Benedict and Sophie

Netflix has released the official trailer for Bridgerton Season 4. It’s finally time for Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) to step out of the haze of the ball background and into the heart of his own love story. Watch the trailer above and read what this new chapter is setting up.

Benedict’s season begins with a masquerade and a mystery

The trailer depicts Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) famous masquerade ball, where Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) sees the masked figure of the Lady in Silver, and from that moment on, he is completely unable to sway her. The mysterious person is Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), but Benedict has no idea who she is on the other side of the night’s magic.

As the season progresses, Benedict relies on his sister Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessee) to follow the threads that keep slipping through Mayfair and uncover the young woman’s identity. The twist is that Sophie doesn’t live inside the ton at all. She works as a maid for Araminta Gunn (Katie Leung), a formidable presence who is clearly in no mood for disruption, romantic or otherwise.

This is exactly the Bridgerton dilemma. Benedict pursues the idea of a person before he understands the person himself. The question hanging over Season 4 is whether the Silver Lady’s fantasies can be reconciled with the reality of Sophie, a “resourceful maid” with her own secrets, dreams, and limitations.

“Cinderella” twist where romance and reality collide

There was no hiding the fairy tale DNA this time around, and Thompson made it loud and clear. “The storyline is a bit of a twist on ‘Cinderella,'” he told Netflix’s TuDum. “You remember being told stories of magic and romance when you were a kid, and it’s really exciting to see that woven into the world of Bridgerton as we know it… It’s such a great story, but we also hope it’s very relatable.”

He also pointed to this season’s tonal balancing act, saying, “This is a conflict between a proper old-fashioned fairy tale, its romance, and the real world.” That reality is depicted in the trailer through Sophie’s life of service and the family behind the glamor. As Thompson says, “You have to take both romance and reality into your own hands. In the best version, ‘true love’ happens somewhere in the middle.”

Meanwhile, Ha frames Sophie through her resilience. “What attracted me to Sophie was that she faced obstacles so quickly. She always had to overcome them,” she says. “Is it a fight over social status, or is he trying to hide his feelings from Benedict?”

New players arrive and familiar faces return

This season also sees a new wave of social maneuvering between Araminta Gan (Katie Leung) and her daughters Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posie Li (Isabella Wei). They make a new debut in Mayfair with their mother, who has trained for Marriage Mart like a competitive sport. Showrunner Jess Brownell explains, “While Rosamund has become her mother’s mini-me, a professional chess player at Marriage Mart, Posey is dreamy and often unscrupulous, much to the disapproval of her mother.”

Brownell added that Araminta and Rosamund’s narrow perspective may lead them to completely underestimate the Bridgerton family at first. “Araminta and Rosamund are so focused on their own goals that, frankly, we’re not paying much attention to the Bridgerton family at first, other than the fact that Benedict has proven to be quite the catch this season.”

This season sees the return of many familiar faces around Benedict and Sophie, including Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Bridgerton (Simone Ashley), Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan), Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Portia Featherington. (Polly Walker), Hyacinth Bridgerton (Florence Hunt), Gregory Bridgerton (Will Tilston), Brimsley (Hugh Sachs). Julie Andrews also returns as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

Bridgerton season 4 will consist of eight episodes and will be split into two parts, with part 1 to be released on January 29, 2026, and part 2 to be released on February 26, 2026.
