The first teaser trailer for Madden has arrived, providing a synopsis of Prime Video’s upcoming biopic centered around the great accomplishments of football coach and sports commentator John Madden. The teaser was released during the NFL’s Christmas Day game. Look above, then read a little more.
The 40-second teaser wastes little time introducing Nicolas Cage, who plays John Madden, decked out in makeup and prosthetics as he takes on the coach’s unmistakable voice, athleticism, and energy. At the beginning, Raiders owner Al Davis, played by Christian Bale, says, “There’s only one John Madden. They never made another. He’s one of a kind.”
Directed by David O. Russell (American Hustle, Unique Playbook), Madden follows Madden’s journey from winning the Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders to reinventing himself as a broadcaster and ultimately becoming the unlikely co-creator of the Madden NFL series of video games. The teaser hints at an early partnership between Madden and Electronic Arts co-founder Trip Hawkins, played by John Mulaney, and positions the film as both a traditional sports biopic and an origin story for the game.
The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Russell also co-wrote the screenplay with Cambron Clark.
Madden is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on Thanksgiving Day 2026, November 26, 2026. This is a fitting release period given Madden’s enduring association with the NFL’s holiday broadcasts and lasting footprint on the sport’s modern presentation.
