First ‘it: Welcome to Derry’ Trailer: Bill Skarsgård’s PennyWise returns in the HBO PREQUEL series

The official teaser trailer has arrived. Welcome to Delhi, HBO’s highly anticipated horror series. This serves as a prequel to the IT film Duology. Set decades before the 2017 and 2019 film events, this new show dives deep into Pennywise’s terror reign. And yes, Bill Skarsgard is back under the white grease paint. Please see the above for more details.

The new cast and familiar horror

Set in 1962, the series presents a group of children living in Delhi, racially tense. The teaser shows that they experience a strange vision, hearing a voice in the pipe and being warned by the authorities as their bodies begin to pile up. The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso.

The creators haven’t officially confirmed that, but Giovan Adepot is expected to play the younger version of Will Hanlon, Mike Hanlon’s father, portrayed in the film by selected Jacobs and Isaiah Mustafa.

Set in the 1960s, it is based on the myth of the King

The Nine Episode series, developed by filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti along with Jason Fuchs (who co-produced in Chapter 2), is based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel and extends the story that only hinted at in the film.

Muschiettis spoke to Entertainment Weekly, revealing that the Welcome to Derry was “inspired by The Alludes” from King’s novel. This is the section where Mike Hanlon interviews residents of Delhi about their encounters with creatures known as such. One of these stories exists as a central focus on the burning of Blackspot, a nightclub that served the town’s black community.

“Every 27 years it appears, the cycle is marked with two devastating events: one first, the other ultimately,” explained Muschiettis. “We use Blackspot as an event where a lot of stories are built.”

Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise: “It’s pretty hardcore, man.”

Skarsgård had not always planned to return to Pennywise. “I felt like I ended it in a way,” he said in an interview with Josh Horowitz earlier this year. “I was doing Orlok (Nosferatu), and for me I felt this was a nail in the co-co of my monster role. At the time, he felt the character was too defined for him. “It’s me, 26 years old – a stupid young man,” he laughed.

But things changed when Andy and Barbara Muschietti – his close friends and creative forces behind the series were called. “I love them… They’re such close friends, even family. I’m (Andy’s) son’s godfather.” That was enough to bring him back into the clown suit. “Let’s bring him back.”

Thankfully, the experience was a joy. “It was fun. It was more fun than I thought. There’s a part where I was able to explore the old Pennywise side that I’d never seen before.”

And yes, he welcomes to Delhi, “It’s pretty hardcore, it’s a guy,” he confirms.

The series is a joint run by Jason Hooks (who also wrote the first episode) and Brad Caleb Kane. Andy Muschietti has directed multiple episodes.

IT: Welcome to Derry will premiere at HBO Max later this year. No exact date has been announced yet.
