After nearly eight long years, punk pioneers Green Day have finally returned to Australia. The excitement is real. In 2020, the long-awaited Hella Mega Tour was canceled due to the new coronavirus, leaving Australian fans stranded. But now, with a Sabers tour of Australia scheduled for early next year, Green Day have more than made up for lost time.

This is more than just a tour. This time, Green Day celebrates two major anniversaries. 2024 marks 30 years since their groundbreaking third studio album, Dookie, a pop-punk classic still acclaimed today. Primarily written by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, Dookie gave fans a raw insight into his life, with most songs focusing on personal experiences. Lead single “Basket Case” remains the most streamed song on Spotify.

Additionally, 2024 marks 20 years since American Idiot, the politically charged album widely seen as a benchmark for the pop-punk genre. Serving as a social commentary on the political climate of the 2000s, the album remains equally relevant today. The album received widespread critical acclaim and was ranked #225 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The band is currently touring North America with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and Linda Lindas, and according to our own Larry Heath, who witnessed the tour in Toronto, Canada, it was an epic event. With approximately six hours of live entertainment, Green Day performed a three-hour set filled with large-scale set pieces, all of Dookie and American Idiot, as well as fan favorites and songs from their new album, Sabres. played. Fans won’t be disappointed, as the band sounds as good as ever and shows no signs of slowing down. As a side note, why doesn’t Billie Joe age?!”

The band announced that their Australian tour will feature both ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ in full, as well as other hits and some new songs. And if it’s anything like our North American shows, we’ll be pushing close to 40 songs in our set every night.

However, the Australian show won’t be as packed with support acts as the North American show, but the Tour Down Under will feature Californian rockers AFI, who haven’t played Australia since 2017. , they released their 11th studio album, Bodies, and have been touring consistently. They recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their 2003 album Sing The Sorrow by performing the entire album live for the first time ever.

Tickets went on sale last month and most have already been sold. However, GA standing tickets remain in Sydney, and limited seats and GA standing tickets remain in Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
