These beautiful beaches are worth a visit for anyone interested in nudity.
Australians love a reason to get naked. There are no official nude beaches in Queensland, but thanks to a (mostly) nudity-friendly warm climate and some of the best beaches in the world, there are plenty of great Australian nude beaches for those who like to get naked.
A recent global survey by pour moi found that Australians are the most keen to sunbathe naked, followed closely by New Zealanders. So here is a list of Australia’s top nude beaches. Or why not try one of Australia’s best skinny dipping spots?
1. Lady Bay Beach, Sydney, NSW
This famous gay-friendly nude beach in Sydney Harbor National Park has been a favorite spot for naturists since 1976, when it became one of Australia’s first nudist beaches. It’s a fairly small beach, so if you like your own space, it can get crowded considering its urban location, so it’s best to visit at low tide when there’s more sand.

Address: Sydney Harbor National Park, between South Head and Camp Cove. From the Camp Cove parking lot, follow the South Head Heritage Trail to the beach.
2. Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Darwin, Northern Territory
The Casuarina Coastal Reserve encompasses a vast coastal area including eight kilometers of white sand beaches on the northern outskirts of Darwin. The central part of the reserve includes a “nudist zone” on the beach north of Dariba Road.
It’s secluded and has plenty of space for privacy, making it perfect for first-time nude sunbathers. Combine your visit with a tour of the World War II heritage sites scattered throughout the reserve.

3. Armands Beach, Bermaggie, NSW
Armands Beach is the only nude beach on the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales. A quiet, secluded beach. There’s little shade, so don’t forget your beach umbrella.
Named after Armand Lemmerich, a French man who owned a farm at the back of the bay and regularly swam naked on the beach, nude cricket matches were held here in the 1930s. However, it was not until 1993 that it was officially granted “free dress” status. .

4. Samurai Beach, One Mile, NSW
Pack light and enjoy your weekend at Samurai Beach in Port Stephens. There is a clothing-optional campsite located behind the dunes along the beach. 4WD is required to drive the access trail that leads to the campsite via Gangan Road. Pristine waters, good waves and clean white sand in a beautiful setting make this a great spot.

5. Tyagara Nature Reserve, near Byron Bay, New South Wales
The reserve covers seven kilometers of coastline between Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads in northern New South Wales.
Activities at Tyagara Nature Reserve include swimming, fishing, bird watching, picnicking, whale watching, bushwalking, and nude sunbathing. The beach next to the reserve at the end of Gray’s Lane is an official clothing-optional beach.

6. Canberra Pool, Canberra, ACT
Although not technically a beach, the sandy shores of Kamba Pool, at the northern end of the reserve on the Murrumbidgee River in southern Canberra, are nudist-friendly. You can also enjoy fishing while enjoying the tranquil river scenery and becoming one with nature.

7. Sunnyside North Beach, Port Phillip Bay, Vic
Sunnyside North Beach is located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. This small sandy beach has maintained clothing-optional status since 1986.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council conducted a survey of local residents in early 2022 to determine whether the beaches would remain nudist. The consultation showed strong support for the secluded beach to maintain its dress-optional status.

8. Maslin Beach, Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
This 3km long beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula was Australia’s first nudist beach. Set against a backdrop of beautiful sandstone cliffs, there are allotted naked sunbathing areas as well as great spots for snorkeling. Don’t forget your goggles and water-resistant sunscreen.

9. Point Impossible, Torquay, Vic.
This long, open, dog-friendly beach on the Great Ocean Road has a designated clothing-optional section for those who prefer to enjoy a day at the beach in their birthday suit rather than a swimsuit. A popular surf spot for locals, where you can soak up the sun and enjoy some fun entertainment.

10. Long Beach, Hobart, Tas
While there are many “unofficial” nudist beaches on Apple Island, it can be difficult to find an official nudist beach. So if you’re looking to try your hand at competition, Dark Mofo’s annual Nude Solstice Swim in Hobart’s Long Beach might be your only chance.
With temperatures around 3 degrees this is not for the faint of heart. Gather at dawn and join your fellow nudists for an exhilarating start to the day with a dip into the River Derwent.
