Industry gathers for 2nd Media Diversity Australia Roundtable

Industry representatives from Nine, SBS, ABC, Seven and Netflix will tomorrow take part in Media Diversity Australia’s annual industry roundtable at Nine’s headquarters in North Sydney.

Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights and Multicultural Affairs Julianne Hill will be joined by representatives from AAP, Guardian, Conversation Media Group, ARE Media, Junkie Media, Women’s Agenda, National Indigenous Times and others.

Representatives from the federal and state governments, Free TV, AFL, Google, Meta, Walkley Foundation, Women in Media, Workplace Gender Equality Agency and more will also be in attendance during the first half of the event.

Mariam Veiszadeh, CEO of Media Diversity Australia, said: “There is no denying that the sector has faced some complex challenges over the past 18 months, and long-term sustainability remains uncertain. “This only further highlights the important role that diversity, equity and inclusion must play in the global economy.” of our field. This year’s Roundtable is an opportunity to confront these realities head-on and reaffirm our shared responsibility to build a more inclusive media environment. Only together can we truly drive the meaningful and lasting change our industry needs. ”

Building on the momentum from last year’s inaugural roundtable held at SBS, this year’s event includes senior speakers from leading media organizations, including new members from ARE Media, Junkee Media, Women’s Agenda, National Indigenous Times, Hachette, and more. An expanded group of representatives will gather. Publishing and Netflix.

MDA is committed to driving change across the sector by fostering conversations around diversity, inclusion and equity. This year’s roundtable will feature a keynote address by Assistant Secretary Julianne Hill and a thought leadership panel moderated by Nine’s Sarah Abbo and featuring AFL DEI executive Tanya Hoche.

The closed roundtable will discuss key challenges, barriers and action plans and aims to build on the results of the seven working group meetings held over the past year.

The second part of the event featuring roundtables will see Chatham House event discussions focus on key industry challenges and opportunities, including:

Industry collaboration
Inclusion in action
Talent pipeline, retention, and cultural safety
Navigating lived experience and equity
Capacity building and DEI research

The event aims to strengthen collaboration across the sector and ensure that diversity, inclusion and equity remain core priorities for the media industry as it seeks to better reflect modern Australia. I am.
