NITV has appointed Dena Curtis, Cieron Cody and Joseph Meldrum to its commissioning team.

Curtis will take over the role of head of Indigenous commissioning and production, Cody will serve as senior commissioning editor and Meldrum will join the team as commissioning editor.

A Warlpiri, Warumungu and Arrernte filmmaker, Curtis has previously worked for NITV, the ABC, the Central Australian Indigenous Media Association (CAAMA) and Inkey Media, which he founded to support projects highlighting Indigenous resilience. I was there.

Her credits include Grace Beside Me, Thalu, Rebel with a Cause, First Weapons, 8MMM Aboriginal Radio, and the short film Jacob.

Mr Curtis said NITV had “some of the best Indigenous content from Australia and the world”.

“Working with the NITV team, a wide range of colleagues at SBS, and the incredibly talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers and content creators from across the country, we will deliver high quality, distinctive original scripts and build the channel’s brand. “We look forward to continuing to provide unscripted content to our viewers,” she said.

Wiradjuri’s Head of Production, Cody brings a wealth of experience to his new role having overseen the production of over 100 titles from development to completion.

Previous roles include Vice President of Development and Production at Screen Queensland, Commissioning Editor at NITV, Investment and Development Manager and Documentary at Screen Australi.

He said rejoining NITV was “humbling”.

“Australia’s Indigenous film sector is a unique force, and NITV’s audience is an ingenious bedrock of curiosity, power and voice,” he said.

“I can’t wait to join in elevating the voices of so many talented mobsters from the remote heartlands and beyond.”

Mr. Meldrum, a Gungarian, brings production experience for major media brands to the role, having previously held roles at Discovery Channel, HBO, Netflix, Lionsgate, AMC Plus, Paramount Plus, and CBS.

In addition to his previous role at NITV, Mr Meldrum has also worked as a development and investment manager for Screen Australia’s Indigenous division and content director for Screen Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island division. He also owns his own production company, Fawn Film.

He said he was excited to support the development and distribution of the content commissioned by NITV.

“NITV has a long tradition of investing in unique and compelling stories and championing and nurturing emerging and established voices, and I look forward to contributing to this important mission.” he said.

Curtis will appear on NITV from November 4th, while Cody and Meldrum will begin their roles from November 18th.
