Michelle Yeoh returns as the dangerous Emperor Philippa Georgiou, joining Starfleet’s Black Ops division.
This past weekend, Paramount+ used New York Comic Con 2024 to announce its progress on various aspects of the Star Trek series.
Their film division hasn’t seemed to come up with anything since 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond, so their next live-action film will be Star Trek: Section 31, a Paramount+ original film. Is this a feature film? Previously, we would have called this a TV movie or a feature-length episode. These days, made-for-cinema movies start appearing on streamers, but honestly, who knows?
No matter what you call it, Star Trek: Section 31 stars Michelle Yeoh. She reprises her role as Mirror World Emperor Philippa Gheorghiu from earlier seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. In the new movie, she joins a secret unit of Starfleet. As she is tasked with protecting the United Planets, she must also face the sins of her past.
In addition to the Oscar winner, the film’s cast includes Omari Hardwick (Power), Casey Rohr (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Rygrok (One Piece), and Robert Kaczynski (Pacific).・Hanberly Gonzalez (Ginny and Georgia), Hiroyuki James Liao (Barry), and Miku Martineau (Kate), who plays the young Philippa Giorgio.
The film is written by Craig Sweeney and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi.
Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere globally on the Paramount+ streaming service on January 24, 2025.
