Xbox cloud gaming will soon be available on LG TVs, allowing you to stream Xbox’s game catalog directly to your TV and play with a connected controller, without the need for a console. Requires Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, as previously available on Samsung TV and Amazon Fire TV devices.
The announcement was made via the Xbox Wire blog, which added that Xbox apps will be coming to “new LG smart TVs later this year.” This seems to suggest that LG’s upcoming 2025 TV lineup will be supported, rather than existing LG TV models.
The “Gaming Portal” will allow subscribers to access a library of games, stream them over the internet to their TV, and play games via a Bluetooth controller connected to the TV. This eliminates the need to connect the console to your TV.
If you’re looking to buy a new TV, it might be something to consider. Game Pass continues to offer great value for money, and Xbox recently announced that Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to stream some games they own outside of their own Game Pass catalog, including NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy.
Recall that the same service is already available on Amazon Fire devices and Samsung TVs. This is a continuation of Xbox’s ongoing strategy to make its game library available on as many devices as possible and move away from being a strict console maker. They recently, unsurprisingly, touted the number of places you can play Xbox games as part of a promotional campaign.
