Marvel Studios has released an impressive new teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, and this time the spotlight is firmly on the X-Men. The minute-long preview, now available online after hitting theaters ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash, shows off the mutants’ long-awaited return in undeniably dramatic fashion. Watch the teaser above, then read on for the info.
Professor X and Magneto combine and Cyclops explodes back.
The teaser begins, giving a sense of a quiet and profound history. Set within the ruins of Charles Xavier’s School for the Gifted, the film sees Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto reunite in a game of chess. It’s a visual callback packed with 20 years of shared screen history.
McKellen’s Magneto delivers the teaser’s defining line in his unmistakable voice: “Death comes to everyone. That’s all I know for sure. The question is not, ‘Are you ready to die?'” The question is, “Who would you be if you closed your eyes?” It’s a somber note that immediately establishes the scale of what’s to come, and positions the X-Men as veterans of a larger war rather than newcomers.
The teaser then takes a big turn towards Cyclops, with James Marsden returning to the role he first played in 2000’s X-Men. In a moment of anger, Scott Summers rips off his visor and unleashes a huge blast of red light into the sky. Featuring a kneeling Cyclops, what appears to be the ruins of the X-Mansion behind him, and what appears to be a Sentinel’s foot in the distance, this image is easily one of the most striking visuals ever taken from Doomsday.
Where does this fit into Marvel’s bigger plan?
This is the third teaser Marvel has released for Avengers: Doomsday. Early clips centered around Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, and all three teasers were shown in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash before being released online.
Stewart, McKellen and Marsden were confirmed as part of the film’s cast last year, and Doomsday marks the first time these classic X-Men characters will share the screen with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and a broader Marvel ensemble. It’s a crossover moment years in the making. The pressure is firmly on Joe and Anthony Russo.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in Australian cinemas on December 17, 2026, and in US cinemas on December 18, 2026.
