In the very sad news of today, WB Games has announced that the upcoming Wonder Woman has been cancelled along with news that Monolith Productions (Wonder Woman/Shadow of Mordor), Player First Games (Multiple) and WB San Diego have all been closed has been announced.
WB Games says it will focus on major franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. WB said in a statement provided to Kotaku:
“We have to make very difficult decisions to build a development studio and investment in building the best possible game with Harry Potter, Mortar Combat, DC, Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, three development studios have been closed: Monolith Production, Player First Games and Warner Bros Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction, and these teams and within them. It does not reflect talent.
The development of the Monolith Wonder Woman video game will not progress. Our hope was to provide players and fans with the highest quality experience possible for iconic characters. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize the Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank all our employees for their contributions. As difficult as today, it is reverting to producing high quality games for passionate fans, developed by world-class studios, focusing on bringing the game back to profitability and growth from 2025 onwards, I’m excited. ”
Wonder Woman was set to feature the Monolith’s nemesis system, which was announced years ago in 2021 and featured in the Middle Earth game, but sadly this isn’t the case.
