“Wicked: Good” Trailer: Cynthia Eribo and Ariana Grande face the end – and yes, Dorothy is involved

Universal has released the full official trailer for Wicked. Look up and taker for a deeper dive below.

Following the Evil in 2024, this was the highest-selling Broadway to film adaptation of all time, earning 10 Oscar nominations (2 production and costume designs).

Hidden Elphaba and Glinda spotlight

Set a few years after the events of the first film: Good Discovery Elfaba (Cynthia Eribo) is now a demon as the evil witch of the West, living in exile, working to expose the lies of the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). Meanwhile, Glinda (Ariana Grande) has become the shining face of Oz’s goodness.

Glinda is personally plagued by the choices she and Elphaba tore her apart as they prepare to marry Prince Fiero (Jonathan Bailey) at the charming palace wedding. The trailer hints at a crescendo of rebellion, political insecurity and personal calculations.

“In Film 2, you can see the outcome of these choices,” director John M. Chew said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “The temperature is rising.”

Dorothy moves forward

And then there is Dorothy. The trailer shows an iconic Kansas girl walking along a yellow brick path with her companions. This is a major shift from the stage musical that Dorothy saw only as a silhouette. Chu confirmed that her inclusion in the film was much more direct than before, but he emphasized that it serves the central character.

“That intersection is where we were first introduced to Oz,” he told Vanity Fair. We step lightly, but try to understand more about how it affects the girls and characters than the show. “He’s surely worried about the fans that Dorothy might pull the focus from Elfaba and Glinda. “We are delicate. We are delicate. We are delicate.”

Chew teased the cinema blend in December, saying, “The Wizard of Oz and our films intersect with two or more films more than ever,” but he warned not to reveal much. “You can’t see or deny how much you’re looking at her,” he said. “I think it’s important for Dorothy to try and respect that as much as possible for you, anyone.”

Music, new songs, powerful reunions

Wicked’s second act includes some of the stage show’s most emotionally recharged songs, including “No Good Deed,” “Thankfulness,” “As long as you’re mine,” and the heartfelt duet “For Good.” Chu is particularly excited about how the sequels will utilize them.

“There are some bangers,” he said. “‘no good dead’ is just an F-King Banger. I don’t even know how to use safe language for that. Cynthia is ridiculous about it.”

Two brand new songs written by music creator Stephen Schwartz have also been added to help embody the structure of the film. “This film needed it to help tell the story,” Chu said. “With Stephen Schwartz back behind the key, it’s pretty extraordinary to see him do his job.”

Cast, creative team, release date

Wicked: Many of the first film ensembles return, including Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bronwyn James as Pfannie and Shenshen, Elfaba’s nanny and Sharon D. Clark as the voice of Dursibear.

Produced by Marc Platt and David Stone and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the film features scores by John Powell and Stephen Schwartz, as well as songs by original stage production Schwartz.

Chu summed it up as to what this final chapter means to the director. “I think the flesh of evil happens in film 2. This is why this story exists for me.

Wicked: Good release at Australian cinemas on November 20th and US cinemas on November 21st.
