Indeed, Prince Charming is a common name given to random supporting character princes in pop culture. However, in the Disney world, he is the man that Cinderella meets and falls in love with.
He doesn’t say or do anything to warrant it being interesting enough for a blockbuster movie. I can think of several other princes that I would like to score for my films.
Mulan’s Li Shang is hot, able to fight, and sings sensational musical numbers. Frozen’s Christoph Bjorgman was raised by trolls and lives a dangerous life on ice (plot!). Flynn Rider from Rapunzel is a fast-talking thief with an outrageous backstory.
Prince Charming is dull and plain and lives in a palace. Oh, that’s convincing.
Cinderella, on the other hand, is kind, smart, hardworking, and wonderful. That’s why she was worthy of crossing the kingdom with the glass slipper in hand. And honestly, it’s his best and only moment worth talking about.
So what shall we do? Would you like to see the story from his perspective? Hmm.
As of now, the plot of the Prince Charming movie has not been revealed yet. If this is a flash-forward to their future lives, I don’t see the point.
If you want to know what a prince in his 40s was doing with his life, look no further than Prince William. He also seems to drink a lot of tea, grow a beard, and walk around a lot. There’s not a lot of content worthy of being a “breakout movie.”
If the new movie is a flashback to the days before we met Cinderella…explain it. Because once again I point out that this actor is in his 40s.
