“White Lotus” Season 3 | HBO
The White Lotus is heading to the French Riviera. HBO’s hit anthology series has reportedly arrived at its main filming location for Season 4, with St. Tropez’s historic castle turned luxury hotel set to serve as the show’s next sun-drenched backdrop for its depiction of privilege, power games, and all the chaos that inevitably ensues.
The focal point of the work is the Château de la Mésardière, a 19th-century palace on the Côte d’Azur, now a luxury hotel within the Ayler Collection. Set in beautiful grounds filled with parasol pine, cypress trees and jasmine, the property overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and clearly caters to an elite clientele, making it an easy match for the range’s glossy tastes.
Variety broke the news, reporting that creator Mike White is still writing the new season, with production set to begin towards the end of April and run through the end of October. The paper also said that La Mésardière Château would not be the only setting, but one of several filming locations, with scenes also planned to be shot elsewhere along the Cote d’Azur and in hotels in Paris.
A luxurious setting with an authentic historical backdrop
Originally built in the 19th century by wealthy cognac merchants and then converted into a hotel in the early 20th century, the castle has long been associated with old-world charm. After falling into disrepair, it was restored in the late 1980s and is now housed in the five-star Airel Collection, owned by Stéphane Courvit, founder and chairman of the Banijay Group.
In addition to the views, the hotel offers spa facilities, beach access, a restaurant and a variety of sports and activities, all wrapped in the series’ favorite sealed luxury bubble.
Here are some photos of the place from the hotel’s official Instagram account.
What we know so far about season 4
HBO has not yet officially commented on the location, but has already confirmed that the new season will be filmed in France, making it the second European setting after Season 2, which was filmed in Italy. The plot is kept a closely guarded secret, beyond the usual promise of new guests and employees clashing over the course of a week.
Casting is ongoing, with Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka being the first new cast members confirmed so far. Only a handful of performers have appeared in multiple seasons, including Jennifer Coolidge, Natasha Rothwell, and John Gries.
Season 3, set in Thailand, continued to win awards, with eight actors receiving Emmy nominations. White will continue to executive produce Season 4, along with David Barnardo and Mark Kamain.
Filming is scheduled to begin in late April, and while the bodies and betrayal remain under wraps for now, the Riviera arc is moving from rumor to reality.
