DC Studios has released a big new trailer for Superman, a reboot that James Gunn is set to officially launch a new DC universe. The trailer arrives alongside the release of ticket pre-sale, giving you the most important glimpse of what’s going on so far.
I got more Nicholas Holt’s Lex Luthor. His hatred for Superman is fever pitch. “I’ll destroy you,” he tells the Crypton hero, played by David Corenswett (Twisters). “And of course, the reporter you’re always interviewing. The person who raised you as a child? I’ll kill you too.” Later in the trailer, he includes the public who is dedicated to Superman. “They chose him – let them die!”
This video shows a lot of the large-scale action. Superman got caught up in some sort of interdimensional space. The flash of justice gangsters (“Move, Big Blue,” Nathan Fillion’s man Gardner/Green Lantern says to Superman angrily); Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) Mr. Pilot a Gristific T-Craft vehicle. Superman and Krypto team up in battle. more.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn explained that Superman always focuses on people at his core, saying, “I wanted to talk about really good people in a world where basic kindness and basic human values are teased, and in a world where goodness is not valued.
Gunn doesn’t take the usual slow build approach for the DC universe, instead dropping his audience into a world where he already lives, including heroes, villains and strange phenomena. “It’ll be a long time before superheroes can become part of the real world,” Gunn said. “We don’t need to explain everyone. There’s a bit of magic in this world. There’s a science beyond understanding. This is where there’s probably an island full of dinosaurs that exist.”
The film’s cast includes Eddie Gattegi (all humanity), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Isabella Mercedo (Alien Romulus), Skylar Gison (Licorice Pizza, Bookmart), Sarah Sampaio (midnight), and Mala Gabriella de Faya (Mood Tom Clayka). Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Birdbox), and Neva Howell (Greedy People).
Superman will open in Australian cinemas on July 10th and in US theatres on July 11th.
