It’s not always easy to find out which movies will be released in theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strike caused major changes in release dates. October is packed with big-budget films and new indies, as the WGA and actors’ strikes are resolved and summer blockbusters continue to arrive.
Smile 2, director Parker Finn’s horror sequel, opens October 18th and tells the story of global pop sensation Skye Riley, who becomes the latest victim of the evil Smiling Spirit. The film stars Naomi Scott, Kyle Gallner, Peter Jacobson, and Rosemary DeWitt.
Also on Friday, Sean Baker’s “Anora” will be released in theaters. Starring Mikey Madison, Mark Eidelstein, Karen Karagulian, Yuri Borisov, and Vache Tovmasyan, this romantic drama follows a New York sex worker’s entanglement with the son of a Russian oligarch.
Two films in limited release this week are “Rippy,” a horror story about a young sheriff who hunts down a murderer who tears his victims to shreds, and “Rippy,” a drama about a young black artist whose career is derailed by a visit from a foreigner. It is “Exhibiting Forgiveness”. his estranged drug addict father; Look out for Memoir of a Snail and Venom: The Last Dance in theaters next week.
