Zack Clegger’s weapons have only been in the cinema for a few days, but the lecture has already brewed about possible follow-ups.
Early words refer to the prequel that rewinds the event, focusing on characters that quietly pull on one of the most disturbing characters in horror films: the string.
Spoilers for the weapons below.
The first part will be discussed in the early stages.
Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that Newline and Warner Bros are discussing the deployment of cut sections from Cleger and his original script into a full-length film. The original draft reportedly includes a chapter dedicated to the character’s backstory, and was removed in length rather than quality.
The current idea is that the material could form the basis of the origin story, but the transaction has not been signed and no timelines have been set.
Spoiler Zone: Meet the witch behind it
In weapons, it is ultimately revealed that the mystical “Aunt Gladys” is the big bad thing in the work. Gladys, hidden under a flashy red wig, manipulates her true nature from the shadows, using her personal items and hair to conquer and “weapon” people,
Amy Madigan’s performance transforms her into both a threatening grotesque figure and a strange magnetic figure, and it’s easy to see why the studio wants more.

The momentum of the showrooms promoting meetings
The weapon, released in Australia on August 7th and in the US on August 8th, blasted past forecasts with a $43 million domestic debut over the opening weekend, then broke Monday’s August Monday, which was adjusted to inflation with a $5.2 million horror title. It had pushed it to $48 million worldwide and $83 million worldwide by that Monday.
At the time of writing, the film has already exceeded $91 million worldwide. This is a particularly strong result in just a few days, taking into account the reported production budget of $38 million. In today’s horror environment, these numbers tend to quickly track the discussion of sequels and spinoffs.
The timing may be difficult
The first part could be a juicy follow-up, but Clegger’s schedule is already stacked. He is currently in Prague, preparing for a reboot of Sony’s Resident Evil, scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.
Prior to the release of the weapon, Clegger himself said, “You may not be able to do anything on the other side of Resident Evil. You never know. You can’t plan ahead.
