The weapon trailer has arrived – and if you think the Barbarians are calm, filmmaker Zach Clegger appears ready to dial more chaos.
Upcoming horror films written by Cregger as the director tease the horrifying descent into small town terrorism. Set in a seemingly quiet community, the story continues in the aftermath of a terrifying event. One night at 2:17am, all the children in Mrs. Gandhi’s class simply stand up and walk into the night, disappearing without any traces. When there is doubt about Mrs. Gandy, played by Julia Garner, the town begins to unravel.
It’s an impressive first trailer, packing in unpleasant, raw skin moments. Horde of children crashes through the window like a waking nightmare. A woman drives the fork into her face. There is vomiting from the projectile. The child is attacked by a speeding car. It’s clear that the weapon is not here to play safely.
Josh Brolyn plays a desperate father trying to find a missing child, while Alden Ehrenreich portrays a local officer caught in growing hysteria. Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Carrie Christopher, Amy Madigan and June Diane Rafael rounded out the cast.
Cregger’s horror debut, Barbarian, was a hit in 2022, winning USD 45 million from a modest budget of over USD 45 million, celebrating its sharp tension, bold construction and left field twist. When using weapons, Cregger appears to be leveling up. Plus, it aims for greater ambition, scale and a sharper average edge. His spec script for the weapon caused a frenzy when it came to the market, causing a bid war between Netflix, new line movies, Tristar photos and universal photography. The new line, eager to stay in the Cregger business, reportedly offers USD 38 million to secure the rights within just 24 hours and cover all production costs.
The weapons will be opened at Australian cinemas on August 7th, and at US cinemas on August 8th.
