Why are we intrigued?
Australia has a tradition of fresh independent horror-thriller films produced outside the formal funding system. To be honest, I was intrigued by the mention of Lake Mungo and the fact that The Blair Witch Project just turned 25 years old. Looking at the trailer, the movie is interesting and well shot. Lauren Grimson, the lead actress, is a real talent. She has made a name for herself in this genre. (She will also appear in Corey Pearson’s upcoming Cry Baby.)
What else have you read about it?
According to Golden Age Cinema’s screening notes, “Water Horse” director Jennifer Van Gessel uses mixed media and real-life elements to incorporate elements of folklore associated with the winding waterways of rural New South Wales. I’m currently working on a new found footage psychological thriller that combines crime.
