The U.S. women’s national team is one win away from winning their eighth consecutive Olympic title.
The U.S. team produced one of the most impressive performances of the Paris Olympics, defeating Australia in the Olympic semifinals 85-64 in a wire-to-wire contest, blowing a lead of as much as 30 points. With this victory, the U.S. national team achieved its 60th consecutive Olympic victory.
Brianna Stewart led the way with another great all-around performance, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Jackie Young had 14 points and five assists, and Aja Wilson contributed 10 points, eight boards, and four blocks.
For the Opals, Isabel Borlase had a team-high 11 points, while Tess Majen and Marianna Toro each had 10 points. Australia will play for bronze on Sunday.

1.02pm: The score difference no longer mattered, but Australia held firm in the fourth.
However, the American team led the telegraph battle midway through, winning by 21 points and qualifying for the gold medal match against the winner of the France-Belgium matchup.
Australia will play the loser for a chance to win bronze, the program’s first chance to win a medal since 2012.
12:51 p.m.: There’s no quitter on this Opal team. A quick 8-0 run made the deficit a little more respectable, prompting a timeout from U.S. head coach Sheryl Reeve.

Copper scored as many as eight points in a 12-minute game, giving Team USA a 30-point lead in the fourth quarter. After this game, there will be a timeout on the floor.

12:41 p.m.: Team USA looks ready for this year’s gold medal match.
After another dominant quarter, Team USA entered the fourth quarter with a 26-point lead. There are only 10 minutes left until his chance to win his 8th consecutive Olympic title.
Brianna Stewart led Team USA with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Jackie Young scored 14 points on 6-of-8 field goals. The Americans had 26 assists on 27 field goals.
Tess Majen scored a team-high 10 points for the Opals and is the only member of the team to score in double figures. Australia continues to struggle from the field.

Chelsea Gray’s triple restored the advantage to 20 points, then Ezi Magbegor responded.

12:07pm: Tess Majen’s 3-pointer stopped the bleeding in the final stages, but Australia entered the first half with an 18-point lead.
Team USA was led by Brianna Stewart with 11 points and Jackie Young added 10 points on 5-of-6 field goals. The American is shooting 53.0 percent from the field and has 18 assists on 19 field goals.
The Opals were led by Majen with eight points, making 11 of 33 from the field. Australia faces a tough battle against the Americans, who put in the most complete first half of the tournament.
12:04 PM: Final timeout on the floor as the first half draws to a close.
The U.S. created defense with offense and spread the ball around, making 18 field goals and dishing out 17 assists. As a result, the United States led by 19 points late in the second half.

After a slow start in previous games, the Americans have stepped up to the challenge presented by Australia and continue to dominate.

The U.S. lead had now grown to 14 points, and Sandy Brondello called for a timeout.

The Americans’ scoring effort was led by Jackie Young, who has been on a roll since Sunday’s final group play game against Germany, with eight points. Continuing a trend throughout the Olympics, Team USA had eight assists on 10 field goals.
Tess Magden’s five goals led Australia, with the Opals contributing across the board.
11:43am: After early confusion in the US, Australia responded calmly.
Goals from Tess Magden and Jade Melbourne cut Australia’s lead to two points with just over a minute left in the first.

11:36 a.m.: Team USA gets off to a fast start and leads by eight points with 6:19 left in the first.
Napheesa Collier and Jackie Young each made 6 of 8 field goals and scored four points for the Americans. They assisted on 5 of 6 field goals.
