The first look video for Until Dawn, the new horror movie based on the 2015 PlayStation Studios video game of the same name, has arrived. Look above.
The film aims to present an original story set in the same world as the game, and hopefully expand on the mythology while delivering the genre-blending tension and horror that made the game a hit.
The plot follows Clover, played by Ella Rubin, as she and her friends venture to the secluded valley where her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared a year ago. Their search leads them to an abandoned visitor center, where a masked killer begins picking them off one by one. But there’s a twist. When they wake up after being brutally murdered, they find themselves trapped in a dangerous time loop, beginning the same night. With each reset, the group faces an increasingly terrifying killer and realizes that the only way out is to survive the nightmare until dawn.
The film adaptation is directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Shazam!, Annabelle: Creation) and written by Blair Butler (The Invitation) and Gary Dauberman. Written by (‘IT’).
Sandberg shared some insight about the adaptation in a first look video.
“This movie has the same tone and the same atmosphere, but it expands the universe. One of the creative things about this game is that people make different choices and die in different ways. The movie has a mechanic where things start over and then try again. Every time they come back to life, it’s like they’ve entered a new horror genre and they have to survive until dawn. .”
The film’s cast also includes Michael Cimino, Odessa Azion, Yoo Ji-young, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare. Until Dawn fans may know Stormare from his role as Dr. Alan J. Hill in the game, but he’ll be taking on a new role in this adaptation.
Until Dawn will be released in Australian cinemas on April 24th and in the US on April 25th. The trailer will be released soon so please look forward to it!
