PlayStation was surprised to unveil a new play showcase that is entirely based on the upcoming Borderlands 4. We were informed that we would get 20 minutes of new footage and gameplay, but there’s quite a bit of unpacking here.
I’ve popped my presentation below, so please feel free to take a look and participate as I will unravel the showcase below.
Soon, developer Gearbox Entertainment claims that Borderlands 4 feels more grounded than its recent predecessor. I’ve always loved Borderland with a light-hearted approach, but I would lie if I said this didn’t look great.
Gearbox Entertainment founder Randy Pitchford hosted the showcase and rode alongside two of the four new Vault Hunters facing new enemies in the timekeeper. Alongside the planet Kairos, our safe hunters get caught up in a rebellion against the above timekeeper and his followers while rediscovering the ability known as action skills.
Vex plays the role of a siren because it allows you to use your Telekinetic abilities to summon allies in battle. Rafa is a gangster soldier and uses the exosuit to help him build a series of weapons like blades, infused with energy that appears to have a devastating effect on the enemy as the camera pans out into a third view.
We’ve seen a specific mission set in terminal range, a field in the giant Rocky Mountains where crazy scientists are performing suspicious experiments on locals. It also states that the end range is one of four zones in kairos, one of four zones that can be investigated without time to investigate.
Here we look at the new glide abilities and allow players to avoid the ability of double jumps, climbing and point grapple. Dynamic weather and events also affect missions, but it is still unclear how this will unfold.
The Echo 4 appears to be a robot assistant accompanying you on the mission to hack into a nearby computer system and reveal the location of the secret silo. This silo also created a product for a nearby vault key fragment. This allows you to unlock new, challenging vaults that act like a high-level dungeon that holds valuable booty.
As we drive towards the post before ordering base, we slide down to the ground and liven up our new personal vehicle, the customizable Digirunner. The battle begins soon. Let’s take a look at new dashing states in and out of melee combat. The mission concludes with a montage of traversal and combat sequences, touching on customizable builds that can influence and determine unique playstyles. We got a final glimpse of the new boss.
Crossplay is also available at launch to jump with up to three friends. It feels familiar to fans of the franchise, but I feel that I’m doing enough to separate myself for a purposeful new start.
Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs. Stay tuned as you get Borderlands 4, which is close to the release.
