Let’s take a look at the official teaser trailer together, Australian filmmaker Michael Shanks’ feature-director debut. Filmed in Melbourne, Australia, the film stars real-life couples Alison Brie and Dave Franco in a blend of related dramas and a grotesque body horror. Date Night Material.
Brie and Franco play Millie and Tim, a long-term couple hoping that their move to the countryside will give their tense relationship a new lease of life. There are no spoilers to say that it is not. Thankfully, the teaser trailer keeps the story to a minimum. It suggests a creepy nightmare that unfolds after the pair encounters an unnatural force. This supernatural incident begins to change not only their existence, but their actual bodies.
This one strong review from the film’s premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and the SXSW Film Festival screenings this March. At the time of writing, the film has 100% rotten tomatoes.
In a statement, Shanks explained the inspiration behind the project, saying, “I’ve been with my partner for over 15 years. We met on the ‘tragic Australian edition of Spring Break.’ And we weren’t adults without her. They question joy and complaints, and ultimately, whether they can actually tell us where one life ends and the other begins. โ
During an interview at Sundance, Franco talked about teaming up with his wife for the project. “We were approached to act together on many different projects. We are very selective. We don’t want people to see us too often in places where people get tired of us,” he told Deadline. “I felt this was right. Not only was the script incredible, but our characters have been together for a decade and our relationship felt like it could lend itself in a good way.” Franco joked about the experience, adding, “It’s either ended this with a divorce or more co-dependent than ever. Luckily, it was the latter.”
Together with Damon Herriman starring, US Cinemas neon will be released by Neon on August 1st. Kismet Movies is for distribution in Australia and has not yet been announced a release date.
