I’ve been able to review a lot of Turtle Beach headsets over the years, including the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Headset (Gen 3), Turtle Beach Stealth Pro, and Turtle Beach Stealth 500.
However, this is the first time I’ve tried a wired headset on my Turtle Beach Recon 70. After using the headset for almost a month, it’s safe to say that the Turtle Beach brand maintains high quality expectations and offers truly amazing products.
design
The Turtle Beach Recon 70 comes in up to 11 different colors (using the white version officially licensed by Nintendo). Users can match the aesthetics of the game setup and choose their favorite colors. I chose the black version of the headphones. It has a dark gray lining for other details such as headset extensions and padded headbands.
The overall look of the headset is also very clean and refined, with a touch of logo embedded in the over-ear speakers, and the extra headset bonus is very easy to navigate. The only controls on the headset are the volume control wheel on the back of the left ear. The microphone that comes with the left ear is also very sensitive and can be flipped to mute when not in use, not in the way of gameplay.
As specified on the website, the headset is actually as light as they say, weighing around 232g. So I didn’t feel heavy or heavy during my long-term wear.
Also, wearing glasses and earrings can affect the way your headset feels personally when you wear clothes for almost 100% of your time. However, I am pleased to report that the Turtle Beach Recon 70 is extremely pleased that the ear cushions and headbands feel comfortable throughout the long gameplay sessions.
Also, using a wired connection allows you to design your headset for multi-platform use, it is compatible via 3.5mm jacks via Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, PS5, PS4, and mobile devices, and the cable itself reaches 1.2m.
Performance and Features
Given that this headset is wired, it’s very easy to use. It can connect your Turtle Beach Recon 70 to almost anything with a 3.5mm connection. Audio is very clear with high quality 40mm speakers (which simply means the ability to achieve the right balance, midrange and treble on a headset).
I was able to use the headset on both the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch (compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 if any). I tried it on my phone or laptop to see how well the audio works on other non-gaming devices.
The audio from the microphone is really clear, with no feedback or delays. There are absolutely no complaints here. And the fact that you can flip the microphone and mute in-game chat is a big plus.
Verdicts and Values
The Turtle Beach Recon 70 headset is comfortable and lightweight, with the ability to provide proper feedback, connectivity across multiple platforms, and control the headset’s volume.
Overall, if you’re looking for a simple wired headset for daily use, it’s a great choice. The ability to not have to charge another device is a huge advantage, but the real winner here is that the simplicity of the headset itself does not compromise on high quality audio and clear microphones all at a reasonable price.
