20th century studio
Homer returns to the big screen and holds a donut. The 20th century studio has officially announced a sequel to the Simpsons film!
The studio announced that a follow-up film will be released at Australian cinemas on July 22nd and at US cinemas on July 23rd, 2027. The release came with a cheeky poster.
Although details of the plot are kept under wraps, the new film is kicked out of Matt Groening’s long-running series, which charts Homer, Marge, Burt, Lisa and Maggie’s cheating. The 2007 film set Hiber. Water supply at Homer Doom Springfield, EPA slammed the dome over town, and he had to grab the red road. Maggie also said, “A sequel?” During the end credits, a wink that will ultimately be rewarded nearly 20 years later. That first film took the banks $536 million north all over the world, so expectations aren’t understated. In fact, it’s amazing how long it took the second film so long.
The Second Simpsons movie has been cheating on the real world for years. James L. Brooks said Fox knocked in 2014 but blew away momentum. By 2024, Algene was openly saying there was no script or formal speech, adding that the play’s return will depend on the wider box office health of animation. Queue Bounce Back: Inside Out 2 roamed to US$1.6 billion, taking the best animated crown of all time easily before Zha 2 surged this year. If you’re 20th century/Disney, it’s a green light.
Show that rejects age
The Simpsons remain the longest-running animated and scripted Primetime series in US television history. This is almost 800 episodes and counts over 36 years. The show first appeared as shorts in 1987, released as a series in 1989, and was already updated by season 40 and ran 37 seasons. There are also changes to the mix. And in classic Springfield fashion, the season 36 premiere jokingly charged for herself as a “finale.”
What’s ahead?
There are no clues to the story yet, but the big questions are simple. How do you put the “Springfield Dome” on top? Whether it’s global chaos, small town misfortunes, Homer vs. basic responsibility, Round 2 of the Family Film is finally on the calendar. For now, you can submit this to “About Time” and probably have a spare doughnut on hand.
