Netflix has released the official trailer for Sandman Season 2, the highly anticipated final chapter of the Dark Fantasy series, adapted from Neil Gaiman’s beloved comic. Tom Sturridge returns as a dream also known as Morpheus. The story is set to reach the conclusion of the universe, what showrunner Alan Heinberg calls “a perfect and complete circle.” Please see the above for more details.
A few weeks after the events of Season 1, the dream is seen reconstructing its dreams, but despite efforts to advance, the past continues to hold it. The trailer previews the visually rich, emotionally charged seasons that blend personal calculations with mythological scale. Controlling dreams over Lucifer, his domain as threats gather from new realms and estranged families. “Dreams survive…even if I don’t,” he says.
Season 2 draws a cartoon arc from the Mist and Brieflife season, bringing many new characters including Adrian Lester, Esme Creed Mile as Death Mee, and Barry Sloan as long-awaited dig of Missing. The return cast includes Kilby as death, Mason Alexander Park as desire, Donna Preston as despair and Gwendolyn Christie as Lucifer.
Speaking to Netflix site Tudum, Heinberg explained that the production was a rare experience for all involved, as it was written and produced by an executive. “We all realised from the start that shows like Sandman are very rare,” he said. “To know that this is our final season — knowing where we are heading is a storyline — we were able to prepare and plan to make the most of our time and budget.”
He also teased how the story was faithful to the source, yet offering surprises. “Our adaptation is intended to remain true to the movements of the dream story, but we hope to surprise the loyal fans of the book.”
Sandman Season 2 will be released in three parts: Volume 1 (Episodes 1-6) on July 3rd, Volume 2 (Episodes 7-11) on July 24th, and a special bonus episode on July 31st.
