When the PS5 Pro was first announced, there were initial questions about it appearing to mimic the PS5 Slim’s design due to full faceplate compatibility, but Sony recently announced that the PS5 Slim’s full faceplate compatibility would appear to mimic the design of the PS5 Slim. We have confirmed that they are not compatible. PS5 pro.
Regardless, with a PS5 Pro in hand and a black PS5 Slim faceplate that I love, I had to give it a try. As expected, the top two didn’t fit, but there was a lot of talk online that this was purely because Sony moved the connectors around. It is true that the connectors are different, but the size of their upper sections is completely different. PS5 Pro is a little taller.
What’s underneath these faceplates is also different, with the PS5 Pro having more in-line vents than the original PS5, presumably to channel heat away from the console, whereas the Slim doesn’t.
Obviously the bottom plate is a tight fit. This was a priority for Sony as they needed to use the same disk drive. It definitely would have been nice for all four plates to fit, purely because there’s already something to choose from (and the Pro doesn’t have it), but at least you can rest easy knowing the consoles have completely different dimensions You can.
PS5 Pro will be released on November 7th. Available from Amazon for $1,199.95.
