Netflix has released the official trailer for The Old Guard 2. This teases a brutal glove-straddled conflict between two screen icons, Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman. The sequel to the 2020 fantasy action hit will face a new enemy known as the ancient immortal Discord played by Kill Bill Star Thurman. Please see the above for more details.
This time, the interests are even higher. Andy’s team is being destroyed: Booker (Matias Schonaerz) remains in exile after betraying them, and Quynh (Veronicangô) emerges from an underwater prison for centuries.
“I think the audience is excited to see Black Mamba and Atomic Blonde see their toes all the way toes,” director Victoria Mahony, who directs episodes of series like You, Morning Show, Power, and more, told Netflix site Tudum. “In any battle scene, you have to have a great opponent… a worthy opponent will easily enhance the dramatic beat.”
“Being in that iron box was extremely frightening and painful for Quynh,” said Ngô. “But then I’ve returned to a totally strange world… this is 500 years and everything’s changing.”
The new trailer gives you the first glimpse into Tua, Henry Golding’s character. This is a mysterious figure linked to the mystery of immortal life. Golding told Tadam that he even gave the character a name.
Then there’s Thurman’s discrepancy. He brings more than mere swordsmanship. According to Greg Racka, co-creator of Old Guard’s graphic novel, “The first film comes from where Andy found his purpose, so the second film has to take on it. That challenge doesn’t bother you that there’s Charlie’s here.
Rakka returns to the script, this time joined by Australian writer Sarah L. Walker (12 years old, last anniversary). The cast also features the revivals of Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli and Chuetel Egiofor.
Old Guard 2 will premiere on Netflix on July 2nd.
