“The Narrow Road to the Deep North” Trailer: Jacob Elordi is a World War II prisoner in Australia

The official trailer arrived for Prime Video’s highly anticipated Australian original series, the narrow road to Deep North. Based on Richard Flanagan’s Booker Award-winning novel, the five-part drama discovered by Aussie actor Jacob Elordi in a much removed role from his recent turns in Saltburn and Priscilla. The trailer above and the following information.

A story of war, love and survival

The decades-long narrow road to the deep north follows Lt. Col. Dorigo Evans, an Australian surgeon whose life is shaped by the horrors he endured as a prisoner during the construction of the Thai Railway. Jacob Elordi portrays Dorigo as a young man, while Ciaran Hins (Belfast) takes on the role in the character’s later years.

The series explores his passionate and ultimately tragic love affair with Dorigo’s brutal prisoner at Powcamp, Amy Mulbany (played by Odessa Young), and his conflict as a respected but passive war hero.

The ensemble cast also includes Olivia DeJojo (Elvis), Shoka Samatsu (Tokyo Vice), Thomas Weatherall (Heart Break High), Simon Baker (Breath), and Heather Mitchell (Love Me).

The creative team behind the narrow road to the deep north

The series is directed by Australian filmmaker Justin Cruzel and directed by Nitram, known for Macbeth’s (2015) Snowtown (2015), and by Sean Grant, who previously worked with Cruzel on Snowtown and Nitram.

Both men are executive producers along with writers Richard Flanagan and Curio Pictures’ Joe Porter and Rachel Gardner. Alexandra Taussig produced the series, handled by Sony Pictures Television.

Jacob Elordi on physical and emotional demands

He gave a lecture at the Berlin Film Festival last month. There, as the narrow road to Deep North was on the world premiere, Erorudi reflected the physical challenges he and his co-stars faced. The actors received significant weight loss to authentically portray malnourished prisoners.

“It was a very calming experience to do it with all the young people,” Erorudi told the media. “I think there was something very deep that happened in that it wasn’t total torture. There was peace that came to all of us when we were in camp, and you’ve reached a level of love that is beyond what you’re over every day, as everything is exposed.

Kurzel and Grant’s deep personal projects

For director Justin Cruzel and screenwriter Sean Grant, the narrow road to the deep north carries a deep personal resonance. Both men have family history tied to events depicted in Flanagan’s story.

“I grew up with these two very important men who lived in the war, and I was able to feel very deeply about the shadows of that past,” Kruzel shared at the festival.

Grant’s grandfather was a prisoner of war working for the Bulma Railway in Thailand. “I saw the effect it had on him, and when I first read Richard’s book, I remember walking away with me knowing my grandfather better than before,” Grant said.

Release date and streaming details

The narrow road to Deep North is produced by Curio Pictures and has been given additional support from Screen NSW and PDV funds with additional support from Screen NSW with additional support from Australian Screen Government.

All five episodes of The Narrow Road to Deep North will premiere on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada on April 18th. The BBC acquired the series for release in the UK, but at the time of writing it has not yet been announced the UK release date. There are no words yet on the US release date.
