“The Last Frontier” interview: Jason Clark of Apple TV+’s big new series, one-take action, movie vs. TV and more

We had a great video chat with Jason Clark (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Zero Dark 30) about the final frontier. Apple TV+’s muscular new action thriller set in Apple TV+’s Alaska Wild – October 10th. He is also an executive producer. It’s so many practical things, very thick. Take a look at the interview above or dive into some of the highlights below.

Why this story, why now

Clark’s pride is instant. “I watched it myself, kept watching it and really enjoyed it,” he told us. “It was something you know, it was extraordinarily fun to film.” He calls it a “large series,” and says that “a lot is going on” across the production and the post, and that “it’s really a good feeling to finally have it here.”

The right role, the right moment. “Apple said, ‘Hey, let’s talk.’ And they sent it to me,” Clark says. This part had a merciless, dark and range. “I love this character. I love this world.”

Hargrave’s stamp – and that ferocious Oner

Episode 1 doesn’t have time to show off stunt performer and coordinator Director Sam Hargrave. Turned the filmmakers behind the extraction and extraction. Clark sheds light on the mention. “I love Sam’s work. I love his frame. I love his eyes. I love the way he shoots the actors.”

He talks about a long take, or “oners,” with a fusion of attention and joy. “These things need to be very careful,” he says. “You need to be rehearsed and you need to be calm under pressure.” And the rush when it gets out? “It’s the closest thing you’ll reach the theatre,” he adds: “It was a great feeling. I hope you really enjoyed the day.”

Film vs. TV: Focus and Stamina

In Film vs. Television, Clark points out the director’s focus and length of work. Regarding their functioning with filmmakers at the peak of their power, he said, “You really feel that you are part of the director’s world. You know that you are part of (their) vision.”

A long-term format involves stamina. “The main thing is the length of time. You have to prepare for a marathon on TV. You really do.” There’s nothing hidden. The film brings another prominence: “In the film, you can throw more of yourself into the rabbit hole.” He feels the sacrifice of that approach. He is now more realistic about his limits.

For now, the series work suit he’s in – and he’s willing to sign up for many of the last frontiers when he gets a call.

The final frontier will begin on October 10th

The final frontier comes from Apple Studios, produced by John Bokenkamp and Richard Dovidio (also author), along with Clark, Laura Benson, Glenn Kessler, Albert Kim and episode director Sam Hargrave. The ensemble includes Dominique Cooper, Hailey Bennett, Simone Kessel, Dallas Goldtooth, Tate Blum and Alfre Woodard. The 10-episode thriller premiered globally on Apple TV+ on October 10, 2025 with two episodes, with one after that until December 5.
