story
“The North Sentinel is Mount Everest in the missionary world,” someone warns. “Let’s start with the smallest.” “I’m not thinking about it small. I’m getting bigger,” Chau (newcomer Skyyan) shoots back. From there, the trailer follows his survival prep, pushing towards the Andamans’ North Sentinel Island, where the island detective (Radika at) stops him and competes.
At home, his father (Ken Leon) says, “John, your mother and I have always supported you…but this is too extreme.” The warning becomes Starker: “The Sentinels don’t just kill you.”
Justin Lynn’s Angle
After years of Fast & Furious and Star Trek Boyding, Lin returns to indie scale. Appearing in the roots of his breakout, Better Luck Tomorrow in 2002, a crime drama about an Asian American teenager. “We make the concept of indie film romantic, but in reality we can’t make our own film,” Lin said in an interview with Esquire. “When you have a perspective and passion and you need to share it with your team, it’s always North Star and I didn’t know that.”
The project grew by Lynn reading Alex Perry’s external article, “The Last Days of John Allenchau” (you can read it completely here) and interrogating his own snap judgments. “I went on a journey with Ben (Ripley) over the last two years, and I made sure our perspective is to resonate with these characters,” he said. “Don’t judge these characters. Let’s become these characters.”
