Pixar
The Pixar superhero family is officially filing a lawsuit again. This time, a new manager is at the helm.
Incredibles 3 is taken over from franchise creator Brad Bird (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Ratatouille), who led the first two films, and is attached directly with Pixar veteran Peter Sohn. Bird won’t direct this time, but he’s deeply involved and is currently writing the script for Three Quell and producing alongside Dana Murray (Soul).
A longtime Pixar veteran, Son has previously directed Elemental and Good Dinosaurs and has worked on all the films directed by Bird, all the animated films, including the first two incredible films. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Bird has long been Thorn’s kind of leader. He and Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Dotter chose him to move forward with the franchise.
Sohn’s latest Pixar Outing, Elemental, won an Oscar nomination for Best Animated feature last year. In addition to his directorial work, Son voiced several characters throughout the Pixar Project, including Ratatouille (where he voiced Emile, the older brother of the lead rat character Remy), Monster University, and Lightyear.
The Incredibles franchise is one of Pixar’s biggest successes, both critical and commercial. The first film to strike the film in 2004 exceeded USD 631 million from a budget of USD 92 million and was awarded an Academy Award for Best Animation Features. The much-anticipated sequel, Incredibles 2, was released in a massive box office draw 14 years later. With just two films, the franchise has generated more than $1.8 billion at the global box office.
The series follows Bob and Helen Parr (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), Violet (voiced by Sarah Vaughwell), a married superhero couple who live in the suburbs with three super-powerful children, Dash (voiced by Spencer Fox) and Baby Jack Jack. The franchise also features Samuel L. Jackson as Bob’s best friend and fellow crime fighter Frozone.
Disney first unveiled the Incredibles 3 at the D23 Expo in August 2024. At the time, it was said that Bird was “developing” the project. The busy schedule, which includes overseeing the upcoming SkyDance animation feature Ray Gunn, seems to be the main reason why he is not in the director’s chair this time.
Pixar is currently preparing for the release of its next feature, Elio, which will open in theaters in June. No release date for Incredibles 3 has been set yet.
