Former Mario + Rabbids director Davide Soliani has started a brand new studio with Red Dead Redemption design lead Christian Cantamessa and other Ubisoft alums.
The studio, called Day 4 Night, is working on a new IP co-directed by Soliani and Cantamessa. The team secured initial funding from Korean publisher Crafton and Ed Freese’s 1Up Ventures.
The new game is “absolutely the most creative thing we’ve seen in a while,” said Freese, whose list of accomplishments includes co-creating with Xbox.
It was in June that Soriani confirmed his departure from Ubisoft Milan, where he worked for 25 years, citing a desire to “embark on a new adventure.” During his time at Ubisoft, he was the creative lead on both Mario + Rabbids games, which collectively sold over 10 million copies.
In a statement, the studio confirmed its commitment to creating new content that pushes the boundaries of storytelling and game design.
“What we are creating with Day 4 Night reflects everything I ever wanted to experience as a player,” Soriani said. “Joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the joy of working with friends.”
