Netflix has released the first official trailer for Eternaut, a six-episode sci-fi thriller set in Buenos Aires during a mysterious and deadly snowstorm. Based on the influential graphic novels by Hector Jermern Austerheldo and Francisco Solano Lopez, the live-action adaptation follows a group of survivors navigating one snowflake at a time. Please see the trailer above for more information.
Along a city where snowfall is historically unusual, the story begins when unexpected gusts of wind become fatal. Anyone who comes into contact with the snow will die instantly. As millions die, small groups can survive by sealing themselves indoors, wearing protective layers, and adventure only when absolutely necessary. Leading the resistance is Juan Salvo, played by Argentine actor Ricardo Dallin, whose daughter Ricardo Dallin (1985 secrets of Argentina, Argentina and Argentina).
The trailer teases the eerie and slow apocalypse as survivors face not only Killer Snow but also Killer Snow. Like many of these apocalyptic stories, monsters are often fellow human beings, turning towards each other to become primitive, survive and have more resources. But at the end, if you get a glimpse of what’s right, there may be more literal monsters to watch out for.
The series was created and directed by writer and actor Ariel Startali (Reissue) and Bruno Stagnaro (Ocpas), who co-writes the script. “(The Eternaut) was one of the first things I read in my life when I was 10,” Stagnaro told Netflix’s site Tudum. “My approach to adaptation is to stay true to a child reader who has first encountered a story, trying to reconstruct the true feeling of living an adventure in the corner of your neighborhood and the construction of that great Argentine hero, Juan Salvo.”
Filmed entirely in Buenos Aires, the series has its story rooted in its original location. “Cities are living beings, almost like other characters,” Stagnaro said.
Eternau’s cast includes Carla Peterson (Blondi), César Troncoso (Yosi, The Rectionful Spy), Andrea Pietra (Unexpected Love), Ariel Staltari (Recurrence), Marcelo Subiotto (Puan), Claudio Martínez Bel (Rojo), Oriannacárdenasand andas (
The series will premiere globally on Netflix on April 30th.
