Warner Bros. has announced the official teaser of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s bold riff on the Frankenstein myth starring Jesse Buckley and Christian Bale, the Bride. The footage refers to a creative and potentially bold spin on the story. Check out the teaser above and read the essentials.
Story & Cast
The lonely Frankenstein (Bael) persuades pioneering scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar candidate Annette Benning) to build a companion for 1930s Chicago. They revive the murdered young woman – and the bride (Buckley) shocks life. The wheels then come off: murder, possession, radical cultural waves, and the enthusiast of outlaws who tear the rulebook. Also in the mix are Peter Salusgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penelope Cruz.
Behind the camera
Gyllenhaal will produce, write and direct with Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren (executive producers: Carla Raij, David Webb, Courtney Kivowitz).
The craft team is stacked: cinematography by Lawrence Sher (Joker, Joker: Folly à deux), production design by Karen Murphy (Elvis), edited by Dylan Tichenor (blood), music director by Randall Poster (Wolf on Wall Street), Hildur Guarnaduna Powers (Chernoval Carol).
Context and Release Date
This is Gyllenhaal’s second feature as director since The Lost Dandory in 2021, which earned her an Oscar nomination for the best adapted script. Expect sparks.
The bride will open in Australian cinemas on March 5th and in US cinemas on March 6th, 2026.
