According to Streamer’s latest engagement report, the cancelled territory was Australia’s most performant title on Netflix late last year.
The two-year releases provide viewer data across nearly 7,000 titles on the platform, accounting for around 99% of all video watch times.
The territory following the dominant stock battle at the “World’s Largest Cattle Station” despite its release in October, but it recorded 19.5 million viewers during the July-December reporting period, reaching 45th in the rankings.
The numbers come a week after Netflix Anz confirmed that the series has not been updated for the second season. This is a source of information that is close to production, citing logistics factors as obstacles to the story’s continued.
This means that the series has the dubious honor of being one of the most viewed cancelled series late last year. There are four positions after the Greek mythical comedy Kaos.
The territory was far ahead of the next best Australian title, the teen drama surviving summer. That first season was watched 3.6 million times.
Of the other local titles, the next best titles were Summer S2 (3.2 million times), Heartbreak High S1 and S2 (1.8 million each), Boy Swallowing the Universe (500,000 views), and the best titles that survived.
At the top of the list is the second season of the Korean thriller series Squid game, which managed 87 million views despite its December release.
This was part of the powerful performances of non-English shows and films that made up a third of all viewings on Netflix. Other popular titles included Norwegian La Palma (52 million) and Mexican The Accident (41 million) among the most viewed series in the second half.
True crime remains a popular genre, recorded in the fire, with Brothers Menendez (39 million), American Murder: Rassie Peterson (37 million), Worst Former (26 million), and the worst in history.
