Telstra today announced that it has acquired Boost Mobile, one of the most popular Telco brands.
Boost Mobile has become popular over the years for its great value for money plans that benefit from being already connected to the Telstra network, but Telstra has no intention of changing these (at least not in the near future) I have left it on record. ). If you are currently using Boost, there is no need to do anything as nothing will change at this time.
Brad Whitcomb, Telstra Consumer Group Executive, said: “We recognize that Boost-branded products are a great choice for users looking for more affordable mobile connectivity, and we are committed to providing that choice to the market.”
“Telstra has been a great partner for the Boost mobile family and, more importantly, for our customers for more than 13 years. This acquisition of Boost is a natural evolution of the brand and an extension of Telstra’s ownership. I look forward to seeing how the brand continues to grow under Boost. The team at Boost is the best in the industry and I wish Boost Mobile every success in its next phase.” Peter Adderton says.
There are several different reports on the market regarding the acquisition cost, with the price estimated at between 100 million and 200 million.
This is a big deal, and likely not the last acquisition Telstra will make in this space, although Telstra was already in charge of the operational side of Boost, and Boost was in charge of branding and marketing. Boost has positioned itself in a very different market than Telstra, primarily targeting young Australians, so that’s where the change is coming from.
