Paramount’s long-discussed Call of Duty movie finally has a battle plan, and it’s a powerful one. Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Lone Survivor filmmaker Peter Berg are collaborating to develop and produce a live-action film based on the hit video game series, with Berg serving as director and co-writer with Sheridan.
Sheridan’s screenwriting credits include Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, and his television credits include Yellowstone, The Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, 1923, Tulsa King, The Lioness, and The Landman. Berg’s directorial resume includes Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day, Friday Night Lights, and this year’s gritty western Netflix series American Primeval.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that the studio aims to capture the signature elements of the long-running shooter series while broadening its appeal to new audiences. Berg will produce with his team, Sheridan will co-produce with David Glasser, and Paramount will distribute.
After years of on-and-off talks dating back to the mid-2010s (an iteration was announced in 2015 and then put on hold), the adaptation is currently in active development at Paramount in partnership with Activision. Script work is in progress. The plot, cast, production start, and release date have not yet been announced.
This is the gameplay reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest installment in the main series scheduled for release on November 14th.
