Bumble. crater. valuation of $1 billion. The upcoming films of Disney+ and Hulu swipe dive into the origin story of two of the world’s most famous dating apps.

Swipe follows Lily James and Whitney Wolf, a young entrepreneur who has decided to clash with the tech scene, helps and then pushes out in creating Tinder. According to Wolf’s Wikipedia, when she unveiled Bumble, she became the youngest female billionaire in the world at the time. The trailer shows both her rocket-like rise and the fallout that comes with shaking the established industry.
Whitney Wolf’s Tinder to Bumble
Wolfe resigned from Tinder in 2014 and later filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Tinder and its parent company, IAC. The lawsuit was reportedly settled for undisclosed amounts a few months later, indicating that some received only $1 million. Forbes has interesting articles that cover a significant amount of this period. As for Wolfe’s departure from Tinder, we’ll see what the film is working on.
“Young people don’t date online. If they break through that stigma, then all of a sudden there’s a full market share for all millennial dating,” Wolf declares early in the footage. She then pitches with confidence in steel. “Give me $600 and a plane ticket. I’ll be back at the next Fortune 500 company.”
We also take a peek at the troublesome side of dating appculture. From the rise of unsolicited explicit messages to the tense and tense battles of the boardroom. “I made Tinder with them. They can remove me,” says James’ Wolf. They then launch Bumble as a space for women to call shots. The footage ends with her rallies in the crowd. “My name is Whitney Wolf and I’m starting a revolution.”
It’s certainly cut to fire the audience, but it’s still not clear whether the swiped offers more than a founder-friendly victory rap.
Cast, Creative, Release Date
Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (fiancé, Valley Girl), the film is co-written by Goldenberg, Bill Parker and Kim Karamele. The cast includes Jackson White, Mikhaila, Ben Schnetzer, Pearson Fode, Qua Duval, Pedro Correa, Ian Correti, Coral Pena and Dan Stevens.
James is produced alongside Jennifer Gibbott, Andrew Panay, Gara Gordon and Sarah Shepherd.
Swiped will be streaming on Hulu in the US after it was held at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9th and will be streaming on Disney+ internationally from September 19th.
