Hulu has acquired the U.S. rights to Jungle Entertainment and Echo Entertainment’s eight-part drama “Sunny Nights,” starring Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden.
Originally commissioned as a Stan Original, where it premiered on Boxing Day, the series follows straight-laced American Martin Marvin (Forte) as he teams up with his dim-witted cannon sister Vicki (Carden) to set up a spray tanning business in Sydney.
The brothers try to transform their company from a start-up operating out of the back of a van into a multi-million dollar empire, but when they get caught up in Sydney’s criminal underworld, they must find a way to survive and stay profitable after getting out of prison.
The supporting cast includes Rachel House, Jessica de Gouw, Militana Hughes, Lar Chapman, Megan Wilding, and a special appearance by Patrick Bramall.
Hulu’s sale is one of many for the series so far, with Cineflix Rights handling international distribution rights. These include ITV (UK), Bell Media, which offers English and French services in Canada, Pro-Sieben (Germany), Canal+ (Netherlands), TVNZ (New Zealand), TG4 (Ireland), and Yes (Israel).
Shot on location in Sydney, Sunny Nights was directed and executive produced by Trent O’Donnell, with a screenplay by Nick Keach and Ty Freer, and a screenplay by Marike Hardy, Larry Katz, Claire Sladden, and Niki Aiken.
Forte and Darcey are also executive producers for Jungle Entertainment, along with Shay Spencer, Jason Burrows and Chloe Rickard. Echo Lake Entertainment and Myra Model Management’s Myra Model is joined by Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, Chris Davis, and Amotz Zakai, with Bridget Callow producing the series. The executive producers of Stan are Kyla Scobie and Amanda Duthie.
“Sunny Nights is a rare show that manages to be both hilarious and truly suspenseful,” said Burrows, managing director of Jungle Entertainment.
“This is a great collaboration between some of the best creators working today, and Hulu is the perfect home for this kind of smart, darkly comedic crime drama.”
Echo Lake Entertainment’s Mankoff added, “I’m thrilled to be working with our friends at Hulu again after having such a great experience with their team on The Great. I can’t think of a better team to work with on this bold series that spans both comedy and drama.”
“Sunny Nights” will premiere on Hulu on March 11th.
