Netflix has released an official first look at Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, a spin-animation set between seasons 2 and 3 of its flagship series. See the official announcement above and read important details below.
set up
It’s the winter of 1985 in Hawkins, and the gang is drawn into a new mystery that takes place between seasons 2 and 3 of the Stranger Things timeline. As the logline states, “The original characters must battle new monsters and unravel the mystery of the paranormal activity terrorizing the town in the Stranger Things 85 story.” Showrunner Eric Robles added, “You quickly learn that nothing is what they thought it was.”
approach
The animation format, created by Robles with series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, expands the canvas. “Animation really has no limits,” Ross Duffer said in the First Look article. “Eric and his team can just go wild…and they did.”
Robles, an executive producer at Flying Bark Productions, said the series will represent “the magic of Hawkins in a new way,” adding, “Get your flashlights and backpacks ready because it’s going to be amazing.”
The Duffers previously teased, “We couldn’t be more amazed by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with. The script and artwork are amazing and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues.”
Ross Duffer said of the project’s origins, “When we started talking about what else we wanted to do with Stranger Things, this was one of our first ideas.”
cast
Voice appearances include Brooklyn Davey Norstead as Eleven; Jolie Hoang-Rappaport plays Max. Luca Diaz as Mike. Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas. Braxton Quinney as Dustin. Ben Presara as Will. Brett Gipson plays Hopper. Odessa Azion, Janine Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips also join Hawkins on his adventures.
