Valve took to the show floor at PAX Australia this morning to announce that Steam Deck is officially coming to Australia.

While they’ve been available for a while here in Australia through unofficial channels, Valve has confirmed that both the LCD Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED will now be sold and shipped directly through Steam here in Australia.

After partnering with the likes of EB Games for the Valve Index, this is the first time Valve is selling hardware directly in Australia, and we had a chance to speak with them earlier this week and they confirmed that this is the beginning of their commitment. I confirmed. Now that we have the foundations in place to sell and ship hardware directly, we can now bring it into Australia in a more timely manner.

I got my hands on the 1TB OLED version and now that it’s officially available in Australia I’m looking forward to reviewing it and seeing how it compares to other handhelds I’ve used . The last few years. We also had the opportunity to speak with Valve ahead of the announcement. You can read its contents here.

For those not familiar with the two models, the Steam Deck OLED features a larger 7.4-inch HDR OLED display with a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. The refresh rate has been updated to 90hz and touch screen lag has also been improved.

The device has a larger 50whr battery (up from 40whr) and when combined with a more efficient APU, you can expect a 30-50% increase in battery life. Valve says it’s suitable for 3 to 12 hours of gaming, depending on your situation. I’m playing. Despite the device having a larger screen and larger battery, the total weight is 30 grams or 5% lighter, which should make a big difference in comfort.

There are some differences between the 1TB and 512GB OLED versions, with the 1TB OLED version coming with an anti-glare display, a removable liner inside the case, and a special exclusive startup movie and keyboard theme.
